The massive adoption of smartphones, tablets and mobile data applications is overwhelming wireless networks. Operators are buckling under the strain and cost of continuously adding capacity and improving coverage.
Wireless carriers throughout the world are looking at large scale deployments of small outdoor 3G/4G cell sites (picocells, metro femtocells, outdoor femtocells, WiFi hotspots, etc.) to deliver the needed capacity increases and improve cell edge performance. While small cell sites are readily available, their deployment has been limited by the cost and flexibility of existing backhaul technologies – fiber, microwave, and E-band. These solutions provide high capacity backhaul; however, they are often too costly or not practical for lamp post deployment, due to their LOS requirements.
The need for NLOS backhaul is being driven by both traffic growth and the need to fill 3G / 4G coverage holes. The goal is to increase subscribers 3G / 4G experience at the lowest possible cost per delivered GB.
The Taqua W-Series NLOS (Non-Line-Of-Sight) Backhaul System provides wireless carriers an alternative that is small, highly flexible (NLOS deployment) and provides the lowest total cost of ownership leveraging OFDM / MIMO technology and widely available licensed TDD spectrum. The W-Series will allow operators the flexibility to create a dense deployment of a variety of outdoor small cell sites to meet the expectations of their rapidly growing, data intensive customer base.
